The majority of injuries presenting at Wimbledon are pre-existing or recurrent.1 Muscle and ligament damage are the predominant kinds of acute (quick/ sudden) injury in professional grass court tennis, with ligament and cartilage injuries being less common.1

How do the tournament physios at the SW19 venue manage these injuries?

Often, the player’s coach/team will attend the physio consult, and adjustments can be made to their training program. We always advise a similar approach at Wimbledon Clinics Physio department. You can behave like a pro at tennis and schedule a face time call during the in-clinic consult so your coach can listen in (NOTE: The priority is your diagnosis and plan, and replanning or secondary questions may need to be refined in subsequent sessions).

Occasionally players will want advice on whether they are fit to play or need to be rested, known as ‘Risk Evaluation’, which is also something we offer.
