The Road To Becoming A mother Is Truly Unique. How Do I Prepare?
Your pregnancy and birth will differ from others, and even your previous experiences may not be similar. Once we accept this, the best preparation for delivery is to create excellent body resolve (strength & control).
Whether it is your first time or your 5th, the MumFit programmes consider the most common muscular, ligament and postural issues associated with pregnancy.
What Happens After My Birth - How Do I Get My Body Back?
After pregnancy (postnatal), our staged MumFit rehabilitation programmes take you from postnatal and post-C-section towards a yummy mummy with expected physio care.

More Details About MumFit Our prenatal Empowerment program at Wimbledon Clinic
For Prenatal care in Wimbledon, we knew we needed to create a program that is 1) personal and 2) Complete.
We had these two goals in mind when creating our prenatal and postnatal packages.
We decided to create packages based on trimesters. The 3-monthly intervals signify the growth stages of your unborn baby and, therefore, significant body changes to the expectant mother.
As physiotherapists, the trimesters tell us how much capacity the body can take.
And how much resistance we can impart into your body.
While it's never too late to start, the earlier you begin, the more capacity will be in your body for both birth and motherhood.

MumFit
Rightly so, most mothers find that concern about their body is the last thing they think about - In fact, most mothers do not seek therapy until a weakness gets exposed or pain develops.
It's not because mothers want to neglect their bodies; instead, the challenges of being a newborn's caretaker can carry a toll on both time & energy.
It's a natural instinct to concentrate on your newborn, and in doing so, it's easy to forget about looking after the body that is providing the care & love - you.
These sessions are, therefore, more regular and shorter, so time stresses are not infringed upon.
This package starts after four weeks post-birth: This time delay is enough time for healing and to get into the swing of things baby-wise.
These packages guide you through rehab, allowing you to return your body towards Yummy Mummy.
Each MumFit package additionally builds strength to perform the physical part of mothering to your best ability.
This staged guidance reduces risks like Diastasis Recti abdominis, where mothers increase abdominal pressure too early and end up with an unflattering hernia.
I'm excited to introduce you to the MumFit Physio Programme at Wimbledon Clinic Physio, located at 1 St Andrews Close, SW19 8NJ. This unique programme blends the expertise of physiotherapy with specialized coaching for new mothers.
Unlike traditional physiotherapy, MumFit is more akin to physio-led personal training, focusing on postnatal recovery and strengthening.
Key features of the MumFit programme include:
1. **Technique and Breathing Instruction:** You'll learn the correct exercise techniques and breathing patterns, tailored to your postnatal body changes. This includes consideration of hormonal shifts, ligament changes due to relaxin, and specific concerns like diastasis recti or recovery from C-sections.
2. **Structered Program:** We expect each mother to hit markers of improvement and treatment frequency regularly over six to ten weeks to give you considerable pushback towards normal.
Each session is 15 minutes longer than traditional physiotherapy sessions, allowing proper 'hand-holding' throughout the sessions and using associated stretching, muscle energy and tension management techniques. This would differ from a traditional physio session, which would be shorter and have more prescription/ healing stimulation to manage discomfort and properly facilitate healing.
MumFit offers a unique, comprehensive approach to postnatal fitness and recovery, distinguishing it from traditional physiotherapy. It's an ideal choice for new mothers seeking a guided, physio-led path back to their pre-pregnancy strength and fitness.
Packages
There are two price packages within MumFit performance coaching, and sessions are 40 minutes; packages require up-front payment.
The MumFit Physio Programme is a performance coaching program for new mothers akin to physio-led personal training sessions. The programme is designed to teach you the correct techniques and breathing cycle while progression is timed to fit within your hormonal and associated ligament changes from the relaxin while being mindful of diastasis recti or C-section complications that come from going too hard too fast.
The MumFit programme is also structured, so we expect each mother to hit markers of improvement and treatment frequency regularly over six to ten weeks to give you considerable pushback towards normal.
Essentially, there are two routes to birth recovery and body bounce back:
- Pain-based management plus prescription lead physiotherapy
- The MumFit programme
Typically, the clients who are painless will go the MumFit route to prehab their body and clients who have got into a pain cycle are best with traditional physiotherapy that takes into account the trials of motherhood and its hormonal changes; these components are discussed in the consult but can be added as notes when booking online or via phone.
If you're unsure which route to go through, we can book a £15 call to discuss with physio first, or a physiotherapy consult would be able to do the verbal component along with an exam, which adds further body understanding before choosing a therapeutic pathway.
